Being the Manager: Short Film Scheduling A to Z. How to plan. Working with Volunteers. Kristina Kaiser is a woman of many hats. In September of 2010, she and about a dozen other people planted The River Church in Quincy, MA. Nearly four years later, she is a pastor, the co-founder of a film production/distribution organization called Stories by the River, and the president of The River South Center which does everything from exercise classes to combating human trafficking. Kristina received her Master of Music from New England Conservatory where she studied Vocal Performance. Her unique blend of jobs is a result of her strong desire to be a help to others and her love of the arts. Stories by the River in particular was an exciting opportunity because it provided a way to make films that are intended to lead people into meaningful dialogue with others. Kristina is also a wife and a mother to 3 children. http://storiesbytheriver.org/ |
What not to do and what you shouldn't need
David Fresina is the author of a dozen unproduced screenplays and a few unpublished short stories and one unfinished novel. He produced, directed and wrote several short films and decided at age 40 that he had to make a movie before he left this planet. David started his research for his 1st documentary film in December of 2007 and by October of 2009 he had a rough cut of the film that was shown at an intimate gathering of friends, relatives and curious strangers at the Clarion Hotel in Hull, MA. With the help and support of his mentors David Bigelow, Brynmore Williams and Rick Bowman he worked feverishly to get the film ready for the San Diego premiere which was held in April of 2010 followed by an airing on KPBS in May. One of the amazing things to come out of this film is the “healing” that has taken place across San Diego. So many people needed to talk about this tragedy and put closure to their pain and grief and they were finally able to do that as a result of this film and the efforts of one compassionate soul from Massachusetts. You can see his 2nd documentary Miles of Hope, at the Patriot Cinemas in Hingham on May 8th. www.nantascotfilms.com/ |

How short films are different from feature films and how to best take advantage of the medium, especially as things like YouTube and Vimeo have changed the expectations for how long short films should be and what they should accomplish. Keep in mind he is NOT going to discuss the importance of short titles. ;)

ACTING for Film
Randy Veraguas has been acting since she jumped over the candle at age 2 playing Jack. Oh wait, she refused that role and threw a temper tantrum instead. Well, that's before she went professional. Since then, she's gone on to star on stage in community and repertory theaters as well as develop a vast array of auditioning experience for film. Having taken all the film acting courses offered at the colleges in CA that were close enough for a day's drive, she finally decided to come to MA and major in Marketing (with a minor in Theater Arts). You can find her resume and headshots (that do need to be updated...hint hint Erica Derrickson) at www.agencyprotalent.com/rthreec |
